Love Yourself Healthy
Posted on 24. Aug, 2011 by Susan in Blog, Inspiration, Motivation, Weight Loss
I live in the “Fattest City in America!” Think I’m kidding? Check out this Gallup Poll that ranked Evansville, Indiana as the heftiest American city with the over 37% of our population weighing in as obese.
I’m turning my attention and my mojo to my hometown. But, this isn’t just a local issue. Watch my video series below if you’d like to learn how to LOVE YOURSELF HEALTHY.
Am I Living a Life Worth Writing About?
Posted on 11. Aug, 2011 by Susan in Blog
This seems to be the question that I ponder as I write about, and talk about, and teach on life lessons. You see, I’m not just interested in philosophizing about life. I am deeply committed to taking what I learn, doing something with it, and then helping others do the same.
Of course the answer is yes. Our lives are all valuable beyond measure. Just because. But, what kind of story will our lives tell? That is the deeper question. We become so distracted by schedules, lists, smart phones and a grim reaper level of obligations, that we miss simple miracles happening every day. We worry about life, but we do not truly live it in the face of so much busy.
Did I tell you that I’m going sky diving?
I do not want to only watch youtube videos on how to sky dive, I want to experience it. Reading a book on how to make a green smoothie is not the same as making and tasting one. Sitting around and talking about what you do not like, and railing against the machine, will only get you bummer-cited (Excited in a downer way…look, I made up another new word!). That’s not the same thing at all as being an example of what you do like, and showing others how they can move towards something better. In short, life rewards feel good action, and your outer reflects your inner.
I’ve been using a terrific tool from Chip and Dan Heath’s book, Switch: How to Change When Change is Hard, called Destination Postcard. It’s my favorite kind of tool: easy to understand, simple to implement, insanely effective. If you’d like to begin creating a life that tells the story that you want to tell, that leads by example, give it a whirl.
1. Where do you want to experience change in your life? Pick an area of least satisfaction. Think physical health, spiritual life, relationships, career, time. But just pick one for now. I know you want to drop 20, make more money, have hot sex and reach nirvana right now, but we are pacing ourselves here.
2. Select a time frame for change. It could be 30 days, 60 days, 6 months, one year, 5 years from now.
3. Imagine that your FUTURE SELF has already lined up with this goal. It’s a done deal girl. In the bag. As your future self, write and send your current self a little post card from the victory party. It should be short enough to fit on a post card. Ok, maybe you’ll send a jumbo post card, but keep it short and sweet.
I’ll show you mine if you show me yours.
Dear Susan,
You will not believe what it’s like to spend the summer of 2012 in Europe. The deep connection we’ve had with the family, the pure bliss of seeing the world in person, and the inspiration on rocket
fuel is something that I can hardly use words to explain. Congratulations for spending time planning the logistics, saving the money, and devising a way to work from anywhere. The Hyatt Riot has learned so much, felt so intensely, and grown beyond measure.
Can’t wait for you to get here!
Love,
Me
If you want to share your post cards on the blog, I’d love it. And, if you want to mail me one, I’ll help create some amped up space for your dream to live. (Susan Hyatt 714 S Willow Road, Evansville, IN 47714)

The 100-Day Invitation
Posted on 25. Jan, 2011 by Susan in Blog
What if you didn’t wake up?
My brother-in-law Shawn would not wake up last Friday. 38 years old and healthy. Strong runner. Active father of three. Unresponsive.
He was life-flighted from one hospital to another. Intubation roused him that day. Tests later revealed a stroke. His wife Beth later joked with him that he wasn’t awake for his very first helicopter ride.
Have you ever heard a song or read a sign posted, or received some kind of nudge that you knew was a wink from God? I heard the song “Not My Time” by Three Doors Down that afternoon.
Cause it’s not my time, I’m not going
There’s a fear in me and it’s not showing
This could be the end of me
And everything I know, ooh, but I won’t go
I look ahead to all the plans that we made
And the dreams that we had
I’m in a world that tries to take them away
Oh, but I’m taking them back
Shawn’s not going. It’s not his time. He’s right here going to rehab. His wife Beth is assembling the right care for him so that he can do his work in the world as an environmentalist, husband, father.
In an instant, their lives have changed. Instead of their days being filled with work, kids and family activities, they are being lived inside a rehabilitation facility and filled with appointments with specialists.
Beth was told that these next 100 days are critical to Shawn’s rehabilitation. (We both respectfully give the finger to the doctor who suggested that Shawn had ONLY 100 days to regain what he could.) So, I’m joining him. I’m dedicating the next 100 days to Shawn. He’s giving it all he’s got. And so am I. Every business decision, every 5 mile run, every time I choose love over fear, I am dedicating it in service to Shawn’s rehabilitation.
So I ask you, interested reader, will you join us?
Are you living or are you dying? That is the ultimate question. What are you putting off until you are thinner, richer, smarter, have more time or are “ready?” Is there something your soul has craved that you’ve ignored?
Take the next 100 days and let’s do something about it.
Choose to live. Things can change in an instant.
